Jeanne Newhall Sets Free Her New EP, Cranes Among Clouds

(Los Angeles, CA September 24, 2019) Accomplished singer, songwriter and Steinway piano artist Jeanne Newhall is set to release the six singles from her new Cranes Among Clouds EP, one at a time, adding to hundreds of songs in a catalog that spans twenty-two albums. The songs will be available digitally worldwide on Spotify, Amazon, Apple Music, iTunes, and Pandora. On January 6, 2020, Cranes Among Clouds will be available in its entirety on CD and for downloads and streaming.

Newhall describes the works on Cranes Among Clouds as “pieces of a puzzle. The songs wanted to be joined together to become one whole musical offering.” She was inspired largely by her profound musical relationship with Kazunori Koga, a guitarist from Osaka, Japan.

“Kazunori Koga and I have the rare gift of a highly intuitive musical sense,” Newhall explains. “Our connection transcended all language and cultural barriers and revealed an uncanny and mystical link between us.” Newhall also takes inspiration from the beloved Asian symbol of the crane, a bird that flies higher than any other bird and represents longevity, peace, and social advancement.

The first single released is the beautifully arranged “Paris,” in which Newhall takes the listener on a winding journey through waterfall-like piano crescendos, to the resonating words, “You started something that won’t let go of me.” A former partner, Greg Smith, arranged the string parts. In addition, renowned violinist and violist Charlie Bisharat plays on this track, as well as the next, “Looking at the Sky.” The graceful, poetic song begins with, “I fell in love with an Aquarius, he was in Italy on a tour bus,” before floating and gliding along on a gorgeous riff from Kazunori.

A cover of Paul Simon’s “The Boxer” will be released on September 19th. October 10th will see the release of Newhall’s “Sugilite,” an emotionally fragile composition capturing sorrow and loss, followed by the smooth “King of Tender” on November 7th. Finally, on December 12th, comes, “A Rose for Natalia”, a dizzying, mysterious and romantic instrumental blending Newhall’s classically influenced piano work and Kazunori’s intuitive guitar that is perfect for the soundtrack of an original series.

Newhall and Kazunori played together on the previous albums, Sky and Still Loving You, and have toured Japan five times, along with three tours in the United States.
